Fire Incident Displaces Four Residents in Northeast Albuquerque

Incident Details

On December 27, 2025, a fire at the Chelsea Village Apartments in northeast Albuquerque left four residents without homes. The first alarm rang out around 12:08 p.m. when a fire broke out on the second floor of the complex, located at 7100 Natalie Avenue NE, near the intersection of Montgomery Boulevard and Louisiana Boulevard. Rapid response from Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) ensured that the flames were extinguished quickly, but two individuals were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Rekindled Fire Response

Despite the successful initial response, firefighters were called back to the scene approximately nine to ten hours later at 9:09 p.m. due to a rekindled fire. This second incident prompted further action to control the spread, displacing four people across at least two apartments. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported from this rekindled fire, which was also deemed accidental.

Community Impact and Support

The fires have highlighted ongoing concerns regarding fire safety within densely populated residential areas like northeast Albuquerque, where apartment complexes are common. Following the incident, AFR collaborated with apartment management and the American Red Cross to provide immediate assistance to those affected, including shelter and food.

Broader Fire Safety Context

Apartment fires are unfortunately not uncommon in Albuquerque, often stemming from accidental causes such as cooking mishaps or heating equipment failures. In 2024 alone, AFR responded to over 1,200 structure fires citywide, with many affecting multifamily units. As fire safety initiatives continue, the community is encouraged to maintain smoke alarms, develop escape plans, and ensure regular professional inspections.

Resources for Displaced Residents

For residents displaced by this fire, support resources are available. Long-term assistance can include applications for FEMA disaster aid and access to local shelters. Community organizations also offer support in the form of clothing, financial assistance, and mental health services to help those affected recover from the incident.
